Trendy hosts are always looking for something special. New materials, unusual shapes, colours and glazes are at the forefront. Natural stones such as slate and basalt are particularly in vogue for stylish food presentation with a kick.
However, real stone slabs do not guarantee hygiene and are extremely heavy and unwieldy. This prompted us to develop a range of tableware that has the look of natural slate and the physical and hygienic stability required for use with food (LFGB and FDA compliant). The result is the Slate Design collection, which we produce in three versions.
- White slate porcelain by Professional china
- Black slate hard ceramic with matt glaze
- Black shale hard ceramics with glossy glaze
Each of these grades focuses on a specific application property, which we describe in more detail in the respective articles. All three grades offer important advantages over natural slate when used as a food contact material:
- 100% dishwasher safe
- 100% microwave safe
- 100% hygienic
- Heat & oven proof
- High gastronomic professionalism in white and glossy version
- Lighter weight
- Significantly longer shelf life
Unlike white slate porcelain and glossy slate hard ceramic, the matt version is not cut-resistant and is intended for all dishes that will not be subject to mechanical pressure when eaten. Matt slate ceramics are particularly popular for cheese platters, snacks, cold cuts and cold dishes, cakes and desserts, bowls for pesto, dips and creams, salads, crisps, wedges and many other trendy dishes. We produce these two qualities of black slate because many of our customers value the authentic look of real slate. When placed on the table, the matt slate ceramic is almost indistinguishable from natural slate, offering a hygienic and clean alternative to real slate, which is very porous and has a number of very questionable properties when used with food. If the crockery is going to be used for heavy-duty use, or for pizza, meat and similar foods, you should choose the glossy version of slate ceramic or white slate porcelain.
Important instructions for use of matt glazes
