Decoration

Kinds of decoration in porcelain production

According to the definition, the verb "to decorate" means the subsequent embellishment, refinement or artistic shaping of an object. The decoration represents the subsequently produced embellishment. From this definition it can be derived that all types of a subsequent porcelain decoration belong to the group of decorations, thus also logos, company labels and all other types of vignettes. By the way, a relief placed in the body as an elevation or depression does not belong to the group of decorations. The description "decor" does not give the porcelain any indication of the type, quality, value or durability of a refinement. It is therefore important to know the further details and information on porcelain decors

At Holst Porzellan, we understand decoration processes to mean the production method by which a decoration is applied to the shards. The type of decoration distinguishes the location and the degree of thermal processing of a porcelain decoration. In this section we describe the types of subsequent processing (embellishment) of porcelain and ceramic materials.
