Already in 1975 Knud Holst II. coined a guiding principle for our industry, which applies especially well to the porcelain storage cans: Somehow everything has been there before and only a little is really new. Even in grandmother's time, many foodstuffs, flour, sugar, coffee beans and coffee powder, tea and many spices and ingredients were stored in storage jars. Then they were almost gone and thanks to small disposable portion sizes they were not as necessary as they used to be. Tupperware and other plastic containers later replaced the storage in the refrigerators with fashionable colours and shapes and corresponded to the practical zeitgeist.

However, the modern zeitgeist changed and today plastic stands for synthetics, environmental pollution and mountains of rubbish. This does not affect the fact that all kinds of plastics are far from matching the usage properties and durability of porcelain. Temperature resistance, resistance to fungi, germs, viruses and bacteria, dishwasher resistance and much more have always been unassailable by plastic. Instead of a throwaway society, however, there is now a growing awareness of sustainability and responsibility for one's own ecological footprint. If it does not greatly restrict our living space, we are prepared to give up comfort in order to promote sustainability.

The storage cans of the VD line from Holst Porzellan are sustainable storage cans and, if handled with care, will last a lifetime. The VD 001 has a filling volume of 300 g and is therefore the smallest storage can of this can series. It is particularly suitable for very expensive spices, such as saffron, vanilla or cardamom, or very intensive ingredients such as cinnamon, pepper etc., which are not consumed in large quantities.

We at Holst Porzellan deliberately avoid labelled (pre-labelled) storage cans so as not to restrict their use. Neutral white storage jars can be individually labelled with an Edding. If the use changes, the writing can simply be washed off and renewed. This saves space and money and creates many possibilities. Even adhesive labels can be removed from porcelain containers much more easily and without leaving any residue than from other materials.
