Material:
This item is made of feldspar porcelain, one of the oldest and most proven materials for degusting and presenting food and hot drinks. Because of the high firing temperature and the resulting hardness and density, it is also called hard porcelain. Feldspar porcelain is always oven-safe, suitable for the microwave and dishwasher-safe.

Quality level:
This item is classified into the quality level High Quality as the best sorting with a ratio of approx. 95/5 a-b-grade. The glaze is even and shiny. The item is free from visual flaws. In very few cases minor pinholes or light refractions can still be seen when reviewed carefully. As porcelain is a natural product, the item is "top" but not "perfect". This quality level is comparable e.g. with Bauscher, Schönwald, Rosenthal, Villeroy & Boch, RAK and many other well-known premium brands.

The special use properties of this item

The dinner and menu plate 24 cm with high rim is a trend item of the 2020s and especially popular with the younger connoisseurs. The presentation of food differs from serving on a classic rim plate and represents the modern zeitgeist through its color and shape like no other serving item. Basically, a much larger serving surface is available on plates with a high rim than on classic menu plates with a rim. This 24 cm wide dinner plate offers just under 23 cm of serving and serving surface. In comparison, a flag plate with a larger diameter of 27 cm - e.g. from the Harmony series - only offers a serving surface of 18 cm. Thus, the space gain of such a plate with its almost 90° rising edge is enormous compared to classic menu plates.

This functional property provides the plate with high edge - technically correct, by the way, plate with high edge - a concise independence and the special character of modernity. In urban environments, space is becoming increasingly important and with a diameter of 24 cm, this plate can be set even on 60s tables. This fits the zeitgeist

Also in terms of food variety, this serving plate surpasses the classic flat plate. Half plate half bowl it may well be called bowl plate. Its depth is not enough for a soup, but gives especially sauce-heavy meals a good stability. Whether a masterfully arranged salmon fillet or a portion of chili con carne, both can be served perfectly in the bowl plate.

When choosing a food plate with a high edge, you should pay attention to the consumption comfort . Executed too high, such an "edge" can quickly become an obstacle when cutting and picking up the food. The knife should still be able to be guided by the guest at least at a 45° angle. On this pleasure comfort we have paid attention and dimensioned this dish plate accordingly.

Although the trend of this food plate is dedicated more to the younger generation, this plate also suitable for older people and for all connoisseurs who are limited by impaired vision or motor disorders. The raised edge facilitates the pick up of the food and the edge protects against slipping. The same applies, of course, for toddlers - but they probably prefer Pocahontas or Maya the Bee.

In handling before and after eating, the bowl plate is somewhat more difficult to handle than a classic food plate. The bowl plate should not be stacked high. Unlike many other manufacturers, we at Holst Porcelain manufacture this plate with a high rim from genuine hard porcelain. This gives it the advantage of high stability and durability. With the design appeal of the modern trend, this plate - with the exception of stackability - includes all the benefits of a gastronomy-grade, resilient serving plate...

The design and character of the porcelain series Musgo

The name Musgo in Spanish stands for a tightly growing moss and designates the fourth glaze variant of the collection Reactive Trend. Moss is one of the oldest vegetations of earthen flora and has survived all eras of the earth's history until today. Moss is a symbol of natural strength, withstanding all temperatures and influences and closely rooted to the earth. Just like our porcelain! Musgo - a deep, rich green that in its irregularity again as a whole offers a harmonious picture. Discreetly interspersed and speckled with small green to green-black shades of the reactive glaze, Musgo porcelain embodies the deep connection between porcelain and the earth. Hardly a name could be better suited to a porcelain series, because porcelain is also not subject to any natural aging process and is made for eternity. Thus, Musgo stands for the elements nature, taste and sustainability and equally for a modern zeitgeist.

Reactive porcelain nature-related colors such as the deep moss green of the series Musgo, unite the enjoyment of different food components without singling out any of them. There lies the culinary secret of reactive glazes.. Bright meats, fish, and even bright red tomatoes appear quieter, more subdued, and appear on Musgo as if bedded in natural moss. Yet the lush green doesn't exclusively represent vegetarian cuisine, but rather connects all types of food to the nature-inspired feeling of nature, sustainability and health. This is the perfect platform to combine visual emotions with culinary delights, stimulating two crucial senses.

The outstanding feature of Holst Porcelain's reactive glazes is the variety of combinations among them. Thus Musgo, Carbon, Coral, Arena, Granito, Moreno and Tierra can be put together as "Mix & Match Porcelain" to create exciting and always new, homogeneous serving combinations. Above all, they are not only combinable with themselves, but also blend harmoniously with all white porcelain series as a deliberately arranged highlight.

The special features of the material and glaze

The outstanding feature of the articles in the "Reactive Trend" series from Holst Porcelain is the realization of a reactive glaze on high-fired feldspar porcelain above 1. 320 °C. Only in this way real hard porcelain is created, whose properties are not subject to any natural aging process.

In contrast to most of the reactive tableware on the market, which is predominantly offered on a lower fired ceramic, stoneware or Vitreous China, this article is made of genuine, high-quality feldspar porcelain (hard porcelain). On the development and implementation of the reactive porcelain, we have researched more than three years together with our partner factory and invested a lot of time and money to realize this reactive tableware "fit for professional use" in the quality level hotel porcelain. In fact, originally this urban decoration type comes from fine ceramics finishing, which has matured to new popularity thanks to an English manufacturer. However, even this Vitreous China does not match the hardness and density of the real feldspathic porcelain, and therefore quickly shows fatigue in commercial use. Established porcelain manufacturers have simulated reactive porcelain via decors and simply applied the reactive pattern as a full decal on a standard colored article. In fact, this has created beautiful decor images, but the character of a handmade, urban porcelain simply cannot be implemented in style on 0-8-15 standard items.

We perceived this gap in the market as a challenge for a true porcelain professional and set to work. After three years of intensive research, we were able to present true reactive porcelain on natural, hand-crafted characterizing molds to the professional world. And that's not even cheating, because every item in the "Reactive Trend" collection is made by hand in a small porcelain manufactory with great effort and attention to detail.

Each piece is unique!

This combines the modern zeitgeist of trendy decors with the good qualities of genuine hard porcelain. This is exactly the difference to many purely externally similar looking dishes. Unfortunately, many suppliers now describe inferior ceramic tableware as porcelain due to ignorance or incorrect information from the manufacturers. We guarantee a hard firing above 1,320 °C and that makes all the difference.

Hardness and stability of our reactive porcelain

In order to equip the porcelain mass in such a way that the reactive glaze succeeds, we had to make use of mineral additives that enable the process of ion plating even in the high-firing range above 1,320 °C. As a quasi "unintended side effect," needle mullite formation, which is unique to porcelain, increased and further hardened the body.

The result is a porcelain that is even superior to Alumina porcelain in terms of mechanical resistance - i.e. edge impact resistance! Edge impact tests to the consequence survives our reactive porcelain even hammer blows up to 0.40 Joules. This corresponds to an incredible stability and is therefore "harder" than any commercial hotel porcelain! See for yourself in the video above the result of a series of tests.

Thermal shock and temperature resistance

Tests conducted in early 2020 have shown that our reactive tableware can withstand a temperature load of up to 350 °C. This is not particularly unusual for high-quality feldspathic porcelain. But what fascinated us ourselves were the measurements in the shock range: the tested flat parts (plates and platters) of the reactive porcelain easily withstood a thermal shock of +-182 °C. However, in order to fully test the property of thermal shock resistance, we need "official" laboratory tests. A decision to invest in this expensive and time-consuming determination procedure has not yet been made. Therefore, we can only state that in our test furnaces a thermal shock of +- 182 °C was survived without any problems. However, we cannot guarantee it at present yet! To be continued.

Please allow us to point out that there are only a few porcelain manufacturers in the world who can produce reactive glazes on high-fired hard porcelain above 1,320 °C, like our articles of the "Reactive Trend Series". More than 90% of tableware of this type offered on the market is produced on stoneware, earthenware or similar ceramic tableware.
