Rim

Rim & mirror - a technical term in the porcelain industry

Porcelain makers refer to the pronounced edge of an article as a rim, usually also called a plate flag in the case of plates. The rim is the eponym of the technical term rim plate. Relief plates usually only have a refined flag, i.e. a rim in relief. In terms of the word, the industry distinguishes between narrow rim plates - i.e. plates with a very small rim - and rim plates, which bear a very wide rim.

The opposite of the rim is the coupe shape, although the rim itself is only rather rarely called the rim shape. Chefs and servers also correctly refer to the rim as the edge of the plate

On the other hand, the ordinary porcelain man does not know the rule of the white brigade. The edge of the plate belongs to the guest! So the translation for the porcelain man should be: The rim belongs to the guest - but no one understands that.

The rim of a plate shoots around the so-called mirror.
