After Christmas, Easter is the second-largest celebration of encounters and gifts in Germany and the European Countries. With its roots anchored in the Christian faith, the majority of people celebrate actually Easter as the beginning of the bright and cheerful half of the year. In Catholic countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italy, the "Semana Santa" (Holy Week) at Easter even takes precedence over Christmas.
