Italy - the typical Italian porcelain serving platters

Probably the most typical oval porcelain plates in the Italian style can be found at Holst Porzellan in the Italy series. Designed many decades ago in Bari in southern Italy, we at Holst Porzellan have had these classic appetiser and serving plates in our range since 1998.

The special feature of these platters is the slightly raised rim that rises to the top, giving the contents plenty of support and an elegant frame. The recessed shape of the Italy porcelain platters was designed for serving starters with plenty of olive oil and pasta dishes with sauces and fine garnishes. Thanks to their deep shape, the Italy porcelain platters can hold far more contents and sauces than ordinary platters.

As many Mediterranean dishes are baked or heated directly on the serving plates, professional quality and material strength are required to combine this function of preparation and serving.

For trademark reasons and in honour of our former partner factory in Bari (Italy), we changed the name of the porcelain plates from "Piatti Albergo" to "Linea Italy" in 1999, while retaining the shape and material thickness of the original Albergo plates. In terms of quality, we have raised the standard of the former mixed assortment from Italy to German standards.

Holst Porzellan's current collection of Italy porcelain platters includes six sizes, from a small starter platter to an extra-large fish and meat platter.

- 23 cm for tapas, snacks, desserts and small single-serving side dishes
- 25 cm for antipasti, starters, dessert variations
- 30 cm for food arrangements for 2 to 3 people
- 34 cm for platters of starters and side dishes
- 38 cm for fish, roasts, skewers and large food variations
- 41 cm for large and elaborate food presentations.

Recommendation for use and application
The deep shape of the platters makes them ideal for serving food at the table. With the exception of dishes rich in sauces and desserts, the Italy platters should not be used as food platters, i.e. for direct consumption as plates, as it is somewhat difficult for guests to guide cutlery over the high rim. For direct serving, we recommend the Vital Level, Fine Dining or Albergo porcelain plates.
