The flat, smooth botttom enables even heat distribution of conventional heat sources such as hot plates, hot servery trays, mobile hot plates, Servotherm Heating Rechauds and catering trays as well as cooling in them much better than in porcelain bowls with bottom ring. Placed on powerful thermo plates or contact cooling field, bowls and trays with flat bottoms can keep fruits, desserts and all kinds of cold cuts, cheese, etc. fresh and cool for a long time.

To increase handling and ease of serving, the Bateau rim bowls are equipped with an easy-to-grip rim to make them easier to insert and remove in service, display cases or crash ice buffets. When kept hot, the rim also serves as a small hygienic and heat protection, because some guests like to fix free-standing bowls on buffets by hand during removal. Since the edges of porcelain do not get as hot (or cold) as the walls, they protect much more than rimless bowls.
These special characteristics, combined with all the advantages and the practical use of the high-quality hard porcelain, predestine the Bateau rim bowls to become functional buffet bowls, for self-service buffets and for front cooking.
