First use

Before using porcelain for the first time, please note the following

Intactness and condition after delivery

Check that each individual item is intact before washing for the first time. Neither the manufacturer nor the retailer shall be liable for damage caused by the porcelain if even a legitimately defective item is put into operation (obvious defects). Defective goods must not be put into operation.

Stickers & Stickers

Before washing for the first time, remove all stickers and labels from the items to avoid blockages in the dishwasher. As a rule, barcode stickers and stickers are much more difficult to remove after the first wash than before the first use! For larger quantities of purchased porcelain with barcodes and EAN labels, we recommend using a hot steamer, which is already available in most establishments.

Rinse before first use

Porcelain is fired at temperatures above 1,320 °C. The energy source is usually gas, in a few cases also coal or coke. During the firing process, toxic vapours can be produced which settle on the ware as a fine mist. This surface coating can contain lead and cadmium residues, among other things, which are above the permitted levels for food contact materials. Apart from this, porcelain comes from a factory and not from a laboratory. During container transport from overseas, depending on the country and season, the loads are even artificially fumigated to prevent vermin and uninvited guests.

It is therefore essential to rinse porcelain thoroughly before using it for the first time!

We even recommend soaking the porcelain in hot but clear water for several hours before putting it through the dishwasher. After a few hours, you will be able to clearly see whether micro-matter has been removed from the surface. If the water is milky or the surface is shimmering, this process should be repeated several times.

Incidentally, this recommendation applies to all types of materials that are intended to come into contact with food - it's just that hardly any suppliers apart from us talk about it. Try putting a new plastic cup, bamboo cup or melamine cup (e.g. coffee to go) in hot water for several hours and see what happens.

Product knowledge - A request to our readers!

Since 1998, we have been cultivating our product knowledge out of a passion for porcelain and the endeavour to share our knowledge about this beautiful and exciting material. In more than 20 years, our information pages have grown into a free online encyclopaedia of porcelain knowledge and now serve as a helpful reference work for dealers, end customers, vocational schools and even competitors. In times of increasingly important reviews on the Internet, we therefore ask you to write us a small review on Google. This will help us to address topics that have not yet been dealt with and to constantly revise this knowledge database. Thank you very much.
