Peel off labels

Labels on porcelain

Both the legislator and a large number of payment and booking systems require porcelain to be labelled as a food contact material. This is often to the detriment of the end consumer. This is always the case when the label seems to have become permanently attached to the porcelain. As porcelain generally has a completely smooth and non-porous surface, most labels stick extremely firmly to the product. There are many helpful methods for removing labels from porcelain - from the home recipe (acetic acid) to the chemical club (label remover), many different methods are recommended.

In any case, it is wrong - and usually involves a lot of trouble and extra work - to simply put the labelled porcelain in the dishwasher. The normal dishwashing process only destroys the surface of the label and makes it considerably more difficult to remove it later without leaving any residue.

Tips and tricks for quick label removal

Depending on the type of crockery item, design, age and size of the label, such stickers can stick to the porcelain for what feels like an eternity. Here we give you various recommendations for removing such labels, ranging from "soft" (easy to remove) to "medium" and "extreme".

  • Soft: Lift a corner with your fingernail and gently peel it off.
  • Medium: Soak the crockery in vinegar water for a long time.
  • Medium: Use commercially available label remover
  • Extreme: Moisten the label with water and place the dishes in the microwave for about 2 minutes.  Then remove by hand. Caution: Risk of burns depending on the duration and power of the microwave.
  • Extreme: Use a hot steam appliance. This is the easiest and quickest way.

Product knowledge - A request to our readers!

Since 1998, we have been cultivating our product knowledge out of a passion for porcelain and the endeavour to share our knowledge about this beautiful and exciting material. In more than 20 years, our information pages have grown into a free online encyclopaedia of porcelain knowledge and now serve as a helpful reference work for dealers, end customers, vocational schools and even competitors. In times of increasingly important reviews on the Internet, we therefore ask you to write us a small review on Google. This will help us to address topics that have not yet been dealt with and to constantly revise this knowledge database. Thank you very much.
