Clean up

The porcelain article is now brought into shape in one of the mentioned production methods (turning/casting / pressing / rolling). It has been brought into a workable state with the help of thermal heat. For this purpose, different processes are used, as we describe them in the section "Porcelain firing". However, unwanted residues still "stick" to it, cast articles have conspicuous seams and hoods, rolled goods have uneven edges.

Once again, manual work is now required to give the article the desired smooth, even structure and shape. This stage of production is called "plastering". Round flat parts like plates and platters can now be cleaned by modern polishing machines. However, filigree work, such as reworking a lion's head, still requires manual work. This cleaning can only be done by hand and is therefore very labour-intensive.

Therefore, the following principle applies: The more complex a porcelain part has to be "cleaned out", the cheaper its production abroad is in comparison to German or European suppliers.
