Alois Senefelder

Alois Senefelder is the inventor of lithography.

Lithography is the printing technique in which the motif to be printed is drawn in reverse directly onto a flat stone plate using grease chalk or ink. This is then treated with etching liquid. The unmarked areas of the stone plate absorb the liquid and the ink later adheres only to the marked areas when the printing ink is rolled on. This makes lithography a flat printing process.
