Dietrich Engmann

On 21.07.1997 the inventor Dietrich Engmann, Herzogenrath, applied for the following patent at the Patent Office:

The invention relates to an isostatic press punch with an oil pad between the press plate made of a rubber-elastic polymer and the punch body. The press plunger is used to produce a ceramic tile blank. The space of the punch body containing the oil filling is divided into several chambers. A pressure sensor (8) and a valve (9) are assigned to each chamber. When the valves (9) are open and controlled together, all chambers are connected to each other via a pressure equalisation channel, so that the ram has the function of an isostatic ram. When the valves (9) are closed, the average filling density of the granulate in the areas of the press mould assigned to the individual chambers can be determined by the pressure sensors (8), since the oil pressure in each chamber (4) is proportional to the average filling density in this area. In this way, the signals from the pressure sensors serve to measure the density distribution of the granulate in the press mould and can be used to automatically correct the filling process.
