Absorption

The term "absorption" basically describes a physical characteristic of a substance, mixture of substances or body. Absorption can be determined by gas, light, air, waves or liquids.

Porcelain is subject to two different, very different absorption processes.

  • Absorption by light - measures the transparency
  • Absorption by water - measures the porosity of the body

In the case of porcelain for the table, transparency takes on a purely visual aspect and refers primarily to aspects of taste. Absorption by water, on the other hand, determines the porosity and provides concrete information about durability and resistance.
