Decals

Decals are the end product of the decoration preparation or decal sheet production and are printed with decoration colors. These are brought from the storage in thick stacks to the "decal place", where they are then applied to the porcelain by hand - usually by women. The decal consists of two parts, hence the name. On the underside is a backing paper, which secures the much thinner, very delicate porcelain decoration on the upper side. The decor image is separated (softened) from the carrier paper with the help of wetness and then placed on the white body.

Depending on the porcelain item and shape, this requires a very exact and precise working method. Such porcelain decorations applied by hand must always be considered from the point of view of a handmade product. To put it bluntly: Decals applied by hand can never be 100% straight.
