Sandblast vignette

Porcelain decoration, also incorrectly referred to as "laser engraving", describes a porcelain decoration in which the glaze is removed under high pressure using a sand jet.

This process allows particularly attractive ornaments and vignettes to be applied to the porcelain, giving it a very elegant appearance. The removal of the glaze on the sandblasted surfaces does not restrict the usability of the porcelain, as real porcelain with its low porosity is hygienically perfect and harmless in every respect, even when unglazed. Although the sandblasting process saves a complete firing, it is not cheaper than conventional thermal finishing.

When sandblasting, the open areas must be covered with a special material. These wax synthesis foils are used up relatively quickly and can only be used for a small number of finishes. Furthermore, there are only a few companies that have mastered the art of sandblasting decoration and the environmental requirements for the sandblasting technique are very high, which ultimately leads to a cost parity with thermal, coloured finishing.
